Mental Health Moment | Breathe
May 15, 2022When's the last time you breathed? Not the kind of breathing that your body just does automatically, to keep you alive. When's the last time you really stopped.. and breathed in... slowly... deeply.... and then breathed out... feeling yourself relax? Stress & tension release a negative brain chemical (cortisol), but deep breathing releases positive (endorphins) which help you feel better overall, and even reduces pain. Breathing releases CO2, which helps to detoxify your body, and breathing oxygenates your blood to improve your immunity. The more oxygen in your blood, the more energy and stamina you'll have as well. Relaxed muscles also means lower blood pressure, and healthy blood flow also improves your digestion and helps your organs. Give yourself a break, breathe deeply and slowly, and enjoy all the health benefits that come from it.
